Audi Canada Announces Voluntary Recall

Audi Canada today announced that it is voluntarily recalling 2,432 A6s in Canada from model years 1998 and 1999. All 1998 – 1999 model year Audi A6 vehicles equipped with a 2.8L V6 5-valve engine and automatic are included. Audi has determined that, in rare cases while driving at a steady rate of speed for a considerable period of time and during extremely low ambient temperatures (below -15 degrees C), the throttle on affected vehicles may not
return to idle position due to ice accumulating in the throttle body. In this instance the driver can apply additional brake force or take other actions (such as shifting into Neutral, turning off the ignition, etc.) to positively stop the vehicle. In the absence of such action, the vehicle may continue to maintain speed when the driver expects the vehicle to slow.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by first-class mail in October, and instructed to bring their vehicles in so that a replacement throttle body kit can be installed. All work will be completed at no cost to the customer and Audi will reimburse out of pocket expenses related to this recall.
There have been no injuries or accidents attributed to this concern. Customers with questions are welcome to phone Audi customer relations toll-free number at 1-800-822-2834.
