Federal-Mogul issues recall on Chrysler steering part

Federal-Mogul Corp is recalling 22,689 replacement control arm assemblies in certain older model Chrysler vehicles after it found a fault that could cause vehicles to crash.

Federal-Mogul says a part of the assembly, a ball stud, could wear through the assembly housing, causing the driver to lose steering control, according to a notice filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

While more than 22,000 assemblies have been recalled, Federal-Mogul said it wasn’t sure how many vehicles are affected by the recall.

Federal-Mogul spokesman Jim Burke says the number of these parts in each vehicle depends on the type of suspension, but usually it is one or two per wheel.

The part numbers for the affected assemblies are: k7425, 10945, fa4510x, k7427, 10946, and fa4611x. These assemblies were used as replacement parts on the following vehicles:
Chrysler Cirrus, 1995-2000

Chrysler Sebring convertible 1996-2006
Chrysler Sebring sedan 1996-2006
Dodge Stratus 1995-2000
Dodge Stratus sedan 2001-2006
Plymouth Breeze 1996-2000

In all, 22,689 vehicles are affected. Federal-Mogul will notify owners and replace the parts free of charge.
