A new fast-charging network is coming to Western Canada, with Wallbox’s 180 kW Supernova chargers set to power up to 24 sites across Alberta and British Columbia.

The project, led by SureCharge Corp, will create 96 high-speed charging points along major travel corridors, forming public EV charging hubs.

The initiative is supported by more than $4.7 million from Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program, plus $400,000 from the Government of British Columbia through a joint partnership.

“This deployment demonstrates how advanced charging technology and local expertise can accelerate the adoption of electric mobility,” said Douglas Alfaro, chief business development officer at Wallbox. “By collaborating with SureCharge we are supporting the development of a robust fast charging network across Western Canada.”

Each site will feature DC fast chargers, capable of delivering up to 180 kW. The first locations are expected to go live by late 202 per cent in Red Deer, Lacombe and Enoch Cree Nation, with expansion planned for communities including Whitecourt, Grande Prairie, Jasper, Fort St. John, Fernie and Edson.

“This project is about opening up the map for EV drivers in Western Canada,” said Michael Palarchio, vice-president at SureCharge. “We’re enabling a fast-charging corridor that connects communities across the region — many of which have never had access to this kind of infrastructure before.”

Federal Energy and Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson said the investment will help address charging gaps and reduce range anxiety. B.C. Energy and Climate Solutions Minister Adrian Dix added that the network “lays the foundation for the next generation of drivers in Western Canada.”
