A group that includes Intel, BMW and Mobileye has added Canadian automotive supplier Magna to the team.

The group plans to bring a self-driving platform for the global vehicle marketplace for 2021. It will be flexible and adaptable for integration by multiple automakers, the group said.

Magna praised the abilities of each member, saying all are needed to come together to deliver autonomous technology. “Many of the autonomy challenges the industry is facing can’t be handled in isolation,” said Magna’s chief technology officer Swamy Kotagiri.

BMW, to which Magna has been a supplier for more than 15 years, welcomed the company into the fold. “Magna has a long-term experience in integrating complex systems seamlessly onto individual vehicle platforms, while securing differentiation for individual OEM customers.”
