A different perspective on leadership, with Meagan Moody

As the automotive aftermarket navigates big changes, Meagan Moody is helping drive the conversation on how leaders can adapt, innovate and thrive. She joined Auto Service World Conversations to explain how she’s helping organizations understand what they’re up against.

She grew up in the aftermarket; her uncle owned a jobber store where she did everything from marketing to cash management as a teenager. Moody has been a leader on the supplier side, building experience in sales, integrations and strategic planning.

Now, she runs a consulting firm, The Moody Blueprint, helping the aftermarket tackle leadership challenges.

Breaking away from corporate life wasn’t easy, though.

“You’re really on your own. Everything is about how you present yourself, how you work with yourself, how you work with others, the relationships, the networks. It really is on you,” said Moody, who is also a columnist with Jobber News.

Now she’s sharing her knowledge, focused on fractional leadership — a concept that sees Moody step in and help companies tackle areas like marketing and strategy in bite-sized pieces when full time executive isn’t necessary.

“For our particular industry, it’s a lot newer of a concept [than] in other industries,” she explained, further adding that chief roles in marketing, operations and finance are broken down and outsourced, allowing companies to bring in expertise the company couldn’t otherwise afford full-time.

When she looks at the biggest challenges the industry is facing, consolidation jumped to the top of the list.

“Consolidation … tends to create a lot of ripples in organizations,” while a lack of “data-driven decisions” can hold business back. Even as trends like EV adoption make headlines, she advises companies to “truly focusing in on those that make an impact now.”
