Shell Canada will invest $16 million to expand its Brockville, Ont. motor oil plant this year, the Ottawa Citizen is reporting.
According to the Citizen, plant manager Kelly McKinnon said the company plans to install new equipment to increase production and efficiency. The plant is the largest blender and packager of retail passenger-car motor oils in Canada and the newest facility of its type in North America, she said.
The investment is expected to enhance sustainability, digitization and productivity.
The major investment will upgrade the process control system, McKinnon said. Shell will also replace its one-litre line with a new conveyor system. Installation of a new battery will allow the facility to operate off-the-grid during peak usage times to reduce electricity costs, she said. A new hot oil heater will be more energy efficient to also save energy costs.
