Alberta Transportation, Red Deer. Transportation plays a key role in moving goods and people across Alberta. Through monitoring and enforcing safety standards, Alberta Transportation aims to keep the province’s highways safe for all road users. In order to maintain a safe highway system Alberta Transportation inspects and monitors commercial carriers for safety compliance and for the protection of our highway infrastructure.
Reporting to the Manager of Investigations, the Vehicle Safety Investigator provides technical assistance to licensed facilities and technicians. You will investigate vehicle inspection complaints generated from vehicle owners, industry and law enforcement agencies. With your comprehensive knowledge of vehicle systems and related vehicle safety standards and legislation you will ensure that vehicle inspections are being performed appropriately by private sector inspection facilities and technicians. You will also participate in the performance of compliance visits of facilities, on department committees and special projects, and in aiding and educating the general public. In addition to strong oral and written communication skills, you must be familiar with office and computer applications.
Salary: $2,868.31 to $3,257.51 bi-weekly ($74,862 to $85,021 annually) Closing Date: Open until suitable candidate is hired. Job ID # 1028905.
Qualifications: A Journeyman Certificate as an Auto Body Technician and one of the following additional qualifications is required: a Journeyman Certificate in another related trade (Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Equipment Technician, Motorcycle Mechanic) with at least 2 years of related experience; or a related law enforcement diploma and 2 years law enforcement experience; or at least 4 years in a law enforcement position. Candidates with lesser qualifications and experience may be considered at a lower classification level and salary.
Candidates must be eligible for a Peace Officer Appointment and will be asked to undergo a security screening. You must hold a valid driver’s license. This competition may be used to fill current and future vacancies within the Government of Alberta.
