U.S. News: Safety Body to Begin New Rollover Testing

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has devised two new tests to determine the propensity of a vehicle to roll over, but it doesn’t know what to do with them.
The issue for NHTSA is that it is unsure how to properly report the data to the public and there is speculation it lacks confidence in reporting the data to automakers. NHTSA’s current five-star rollover ratings have come under stiff attack by automakers and the safety agency was ordered to develop a new method of predicting rollover in vehicles by the U.S. congress.
The new tests involve turning and swerving vehicles at speeds up to 100 km/h. However, NHTSA does not appear to have spoken with any of the publishing companies that already perform road tests on vehicles and would likely be able to help devise a method and standards.
