Quebec Launches Pothole Watch

CAA-Quebec is bringing back its popular online Pothole Watch tool again this spring.
For the past eight years, the organization has been able to rely on drivers’ reports to notify the relevant authorities of the location of these road hazards that appear at the end of
winter, allowing them to be repaired in a timely manner.
In 2007, nearly 2,000 potholes were reported throughout the province, and as the 2008 season gets underway, CAA-Quebec is forecasting that things will be at least as busy as last year.
To report a pothole you have seen, simply click the Pothole Watch icon on the home page of www.caaquebec.com and enter the exact location of the hole (street, nearest intersection and other reference points) so that CAA-Quebec can provide accurate, precise information to the 250
municipalities collaborating with the project.
“After nearly eight years of cooperation, the system is now very well developed, and the time between reporting of a pothole to the municipal
authorities and issuing of the repair order is usually 48 hours,” says Sophie Gagnon, CAA-Quebec’s senior director, public and government relations.
This winter, conditions have been extremely
conducive to pothole formation, given the many temperature fluctuations and abundant snowfalls. The frequent precipitation has often left road surfaces covered for several days at a time and kept workers from carrying out repairs.
