Ontario College of Trades seeking 23 full-time Enforcement Officers

The Ontario College of Trades is currently hiring Enforcement Officers to administer and enforce the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act (OCTAA) and other Acts, regulations, standards in accordance with College policies and procedures in various workplaces throughout Ontario.

The successful candidate will:

*Conduct inspections and investigate events at a large variety of industrial, retail, construction work locations.

*Collect and seize evidence, interviews and obtains statements from employers, workers, supervisors, and other relevant parties.

*Prepares and submits information and reports to manager for review and further action as required.

*Issues orders, field visit reports and requirements, follow-up.

*Communicates standards of compliance to workplace partiesregarding workplace situations.

*Monitors trade information/trends.

*Utilizes trade/sector data and/or information from external sources, to target workplaces for inspections and/or investigations.

*Audit and promote the OCTAA and regulations with workplace parties covered by the Act.

*Conduct meetings with workers/employers representatives and associations, conduct follow-up inspections and take action to ensure compliance

*Issue Certificates of Offence and serve Part 1 Offence Notice and Part I and Part III Summonses, give evidence in court, serve summonses and summons to witness; acts as an agent of the College in court proceedings.

*Liaise with other College staff and share knowledge, accompany them at trade board and divisional board meetings.

Qualifications:

*Excellent investigative techniques to carry out inspections/investigations at workplaces.

*Knowledge of OCTAA, pertinent regulations, standards and codes, and sections of other relevant provincial or federal statutes and regulations.

*Experience laying charges under the Provincial Offences Act and/or giving evidence and preparing briefs for Disciplinary Committees for self-regulated professional colleges.

*Knowledge of court procedures, practices and processes.

*Knowledge of trade regulations, theories, techniques, technical data, reports and drawings, processes, practices, issues, work procedures, equipment, management and operational policies and practices in the sectors under the responsibility of the OCTAA.

*Knowledge of computer information technology, College computer databases and related software packages to use sector and work planning systems, input/access information data systems.

*Knowledge of relevant College Division and Department policies, roles and procedures.

*Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.

*Ability to prioritize and identify issues as they come up.

*Analytical and evaluation skills to interpret information collected

*Time management, mentoring and delegation skills.
*Superior problem solving and strategic thinking skills.

*Excellent consultation, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
