Northwestern Ontario Jobber Passes…

Northwestern Ontario Jobber Passes Away

Word has reached Autoserviceworld of the passing of Sam Visser, co-owner of Visser Auto in the town of Emo, located in Northwestern Ontario.
Visser passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 after a very optimistic and courageous battle with cancer.
Visser was born Dec. 23, 1949 in Drachten, Friesland, The Netherlands. In 1957, the Visser family immigrated to Canada, settling in Rainy River District.
An active member of the Emo community, Sam was involved with the Emo Chamber of Commerce and the Emo Walleye Tournament. As a business partner, he co-owned and operated Morphet’s Welding and Visser Auto along with his brother, Richard.
He also had a passion for music, and was a true follower of Bob Dylan as his web pages would attest to.
Sam is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marlene Visser (nee Larson); two daughters, Brenda and husband, Anthony Elias, of Emo, Ont., and Charlene Visser and friend, Nathan Grudnizki, of Regina, Sask.; and three grandchildren, Jaryd, Rachel, and Gavin.
He also is survived by his mother, Tina Visser of Emo, Ont.; four brothers, Richard Visser of Emo, Ont., John Visser and wife, Liz, of Surrey, B.C., Syd Visser and wife, Joyce, of Delta, B.C., and Maynard Visser and wife, Cathy, of Worth, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Lourens Visser; sister-in-law, Metta Visser; and one sister in her youth. A graveside service will be held at Emo Cemetery at a later date.
A celebration of life was held Oct. 16, 2004, which Sam had enjoyed so much.
Should family and friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to Emo Hospital, 260 Front St., Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
