Michelin Design Winners Include B.C. Student

Students from the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit, Mich., turned in an innovative display of transportation design in the 13th annual Michelin-CCS Design Competition, and winners included a student from Vancouver, B.C.
The third year students faced a pair of design challenges. First, the interpretation of an Italian design influence in a vehicle, and then technically rendering a component assembly based upon the unique configuration of the Michelin PAX System tire/wheel model.
As students at one of the world’s premier transportation design colleges, they drew upon their own imaginations and Italian makes including Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, and Ducati for vehicle designs. The students then created tires and suspension designs that showed vivid colors, innovative construction and creative integration of materials.
“This marks the 13th year of our Michelin design competition with CCS and once again the students have delivered some truly outstanding work,” said Steve Lash, manager of concept development and innovation for Michelin North America. “The judges were very impressed by the level of detail presented.”
Student design work will appear in the Michelin booth at Detroit’s prestigious North American International Auto Show this January, together with concept vehicles from Pininfarina, Bertone and ItalDesign Giugiaro.
