Mahle moves into performance gaskets

At the recent Automotive Aftermarket Product Expo in Las Vegas, Mahle Aftermarket unveiled a new line of gaskets for high-performance engines.

The gaskets will go to market under the brand Mahle Performance and will initially cover select gaskets for popular engines modified for increased output.

The announcement lines up with the one-year anniversary of the company’s launch of the Mahle Original brand, said Mahle president Jon Douglas. He also said the company will be employing the latest technology in gaskets by using a multi-layer steel (MLS) design in older applications instead of composite material.

“We will be making MLS technology available in many older applications that have only had composite gaskets to choose from,” Douglas said. “This will be part of our mission – to bring the very latest in gasket technologies to older applications.”

The Mahle Performance line intake gaskets will be made of a fibre material with a steel core and silicone bead, for significantly improved performance.

“We understand the demands that increased horsepower can exert on engine components like gaskets,” Douglas said. “MAHLE is on the cutting edge of gasket technology with major automotive OEs, and we will be bringing that advanced technology to the performance market.”
