U.S. News: CSK Parts Chain Selects Bar Code Supplier

Unibar Inc. today announced that CSK Auto, Inc. has selected Unibar Inc.’s bar code printing software.
Unibar’s BARZ_OUT Pro bar code printing software is focused on automating the retail procedure in CSK’s 1,130 stores in 19 states.
CSK’s stores operate under the Checker Auto Parts, Schuck’s Auto Supply and Kragen Auto Parts names. CSK primarily serves the do-it-yourself customer, with increasing emphasis on the wholesale (do-it-for-me) business.
The Phoenix-based company has selected the Unibar software because of it’s full support of the variety of printer types found throughout the CSK Auto stores, as well as its easy integration with the company’s custom Point-of-Sale (POS) software, says Unibar.
“Unibar’s software enables us to support a number of printer types with a common program,” said Larry Buresh, CSK Auto’s Vice President and CIO. “This represents a significant reduction in development efforts.”
The selection of Unibar’s BARZ_OUT eliminates the need to write code for each printer platform used in the various CSK Auto stores, reducing the development time significantly. The intent is to add bar codes to receipts in different areas of operation in each store, which involves a variety of printer types.
The bar code implementation is part of CSK Auto’s on-going effort to increase productivity and improve store systems. Bar codes will be used on all receipts printed on cash registers to improve tracking and hasten the return process if needed. In addition, bar codes will be printed on the back-counter parts procurement invoices, improving check-out times for customers at the front cash register.
