Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) posted a new record for August with retail sales of 15,506 Toyota and Lexus vehicles, beating last August by 21.5 per cent. Following eight consecutive record-setting months this year, TCI is also setting a record Year-To-Date (YTD) pace, with 115,118 units surpassing last year by 10.1 per cent.
August was a record month for Toyota cars and trucks, with car sales of 11,163 up 21.1 per cent, and truck sales of 3,608 up 21.5 per cent over the same month last year. The Lexus Division also set a new monthly record,selling a total of 735 luxury cars and SUVs, 27.4 per cent more than August, 2002.
“TCI’s record-setting sales pace results from an exciting mix of new products and established customer favourites,” said Tony Wearing, Managing Director of TCI. “It was the best month ever for Corolla (4,312), and Echo(3,251) has moved into the number one position in its segment boosted by strong customer response to the new Hatchback. Furthermore, demand for the 2004 Sienna (1616) and 4Runner (329) more than doubled over last year.”
Specifically, August demand set new records for:
Corolla and Matrix. Corolla sales were 3.9 per cent better than last August, and Matrix sales of 1,420 were up by 145.3 per cent.
2004 Sienna, as sales beat last August by 112.1 per cent.
4Runner, as customer demand for the new V8 engine boosted sales by 165.3 per cent for the month.
Lexus trucks, with sales fuelled by the 2004 RX 330 SUV (466), which was up by 170.9 per cent.
