TDI Cup Makes Canadian Debut This Week

The Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup will make its international debut May 16-18, 2008 at Mosport International Raceway in the second race of this all-new series.
After completing the inaugural race at Virginia International Raceway in April, this next race promises to be an exciting one with drivers attempting to improve upon their initial experiences with their clean diesel Jetta TDI vehicles.
“Showcasing this series in Canada is exciting not only for the drivers, but also for Volkswagen,” said Clark Campbell, motorsport manager, Volkswagen of America Inc.
“Historically, Volkswagen has enjoyed a lot of success with our diesel products in Canada.
“We’re confident that when Canadian race fans see the 30 clean diesel Jetta TDIs racing around Mosport, they’ll appreciate just how far clean diesel technology has come.”
The Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup series is an innovative approach to motorsports – 30 factory-prepared and managed 2009 clean-diesel Jetta TDIs will be piloted by talented, up-and-coming drivers, aged 16 to 26.
Volkswagen’s goal is to find the driver with the most talent and help them break into the world of professional motorsports.
Mark Pombo, winner of the inaugural Jetta TDI Cup race, will have his hands full racing four Canadian drivers that include: Andrew Cordeiro, a 24 year old driver from Woodbridge, Ontario; Chris Holman, a 20 year old driver from Burlington, Ontario; Adam Kretschmer, a 21 year old driver from Brampton, Ontario, and David Richert, a 25 year old driver from Niverville, Manitoba.
