Profile Of Vehicles Surveyed

Ownership period

The average length of vehicle ownership remains relatively unchanged at 4.6 years. Once again, Acura owners reported the longest average ownership with a period of 5.1 years, up from 4.8 in 2007. Following Acura are Honda and Toyota/Lexus owners, at 5 and 4.9 years of ownership respectively. Mitsubishi, Kia and BMW/Mini were among the vehicles with the largest increases in ownership period; however, they still remain among the bottom of the list.

Kilometres driven

The average number of kilometres travelled annually is relatively unchanged. Ontario had the largest decline, of roughly 1,000 km annually, whereas Quebec drivers accumulated 500 km more than the previous year. The average number of kilometres on a vehicle has also remained steady at around 114,000 km. Continued strong sales prior to 2008 have maintained the younger vehicle population. Overall, service facilities are receiving vehicles with fewer km than last year, with the exception of new car dealers and parts and service outlets.
