Robert Bosch Corporation’s next generation anti-lock braking system (ABS) is making its North American debut as an option on the all-new 2003 Saturn ION.
The company says that new algorithms and software development tools allow the new system, ABS8, to provide quieter operation and improved pedal feel with the stability and control consumers have come to expect from ABS technology.
The ABS also has more compact packaging.
Bosch also supplies the vacuum booster and master cylinder components for the ION, delivered as a MasterVac assembly.
“Since first developing ABS in 1978, Bosch has continued to make improvements, and ABS8 represents yet another step in Bosch’s long history of innovation for the automotive industry,” said Hans Weckerle, president of Robert Bosch Corporation’s Chassis Division. “ABS8 has been designed and engineered to meet the needs of our customers while providing the safety and performance consumers want.”
Bosch’s ABS8 is currently slated for at least four additional North American platforms in upcoming model years.
