After meetings between show management for the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) and the Nevada Taxicab Authority, the authority has lifted its geographic restriction that prohibited some taxicabs from picking up passengers at the Sands Expo Center.
Effective June 1, any Las Vegas taxicab can now pick up passengers at the Sands Expo Center, which will help reduce taxicab lines and waits at this year’s AAPEX, Nov. 1- 4.
“This is great news for AAPEX as it will alleviate some of the frustrations people had with taxicabs at the Sands. As a result, we expect buyers and exhibitors to be even more satisfied with their overall AAPEX experience,” said Bill Glasgow, Sr., AAPEX show manager.
Previously, some taxicabs were geographically restricted from picking up passengers at the Sands Convention Center and the Las Vegas Convention Center, even though they could drop off passengers at these locations. Convention attendees were often frustrated at seeing taxicabs drop off passengers and leave empty, while a large number of people waited for rides. The geographic restriction for these two locations had been in place for 36 years and was established to make sure local residents had taxicab service available to them.
Glasgow also announced that the number of shuttle buses transporting people between AAPEX and the SEMA and NACE shows has been increased. This will result in shorter lines and more frequent shuttle deliveries and pick-ups between the three shows.
“Maximizing your time at the show is critical,” Glasgow added. “The ability to get around town and visit the other shows that comprise Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week (AAIW), is a key step in improving the efficiency of your time management and making the most out of your AAPEX experience.”
