Larry W. McCurdy, chairman of the board of Affinia Group Inc. since the company’s inception in 2004, has died at the age of 75.
McCurdy was a highly respected leader within the aftermarket for many years, having held executive positions with several of the industry’s best known companies.
“Larry was a true leader in every sense of the word,” said Terry R. McCormack, president and CEO of Affinia Group. “He was always generous with his knowledge, his time and his trusted relationships within the industry. Larry served as a wise and patient mentor to our management team and was very instrumental in helping us formulate our global strategies. We will greatly miss his valued counsel and his warm friendship. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this very difficult time.”
McCurdy served as chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of Echlin Inc. from March 1997 until its merger with Dana in 1998. After the merger, he served as president of the Aftermarket Group at Dana Corporation until his retirement in 2000. He joined the Affinia Group board upon its founding in December 2004.
McCurdy also held senior executive positions at Cooper Industries, Inc. and Moog Automotive, Inc., where he served as president and chief executive officer, and with Tenneco Inc., where he served as president of its Walker Manufacturing subsidiary and executive vice president of North American Operations. McCurdy also served on the board of directors of Lear Corporation, Mohawk Industries, Inc., and General Parts, Inc.
