ITT to Open New Automotive Friction Plant in Mexico

ITT Corporation will open a new North American friction technology manufacturing plant in Silao, in Mexico’s Guanajuato state in 2017.

The plant will expand ITT’s global production capability for highly engineered brake pads for the automotive industry.

Off-tool and off process brake pad production is expected to begin in late 2017, with series production planned for the first quarter of 2018.

“Our customers have asked us to support their global growth strategies by bringing cutting-edge manufacturing capabilities close to their strategic markets,” said Luca Savi, president of ITT Motion Technologies. “As always, we are committed to serving our OEM and Tier 1 customers with the responsiveness and high quality that will help them succeed with their customer base.”

The plant will implement state-of-the-art technology that adheres to ITT’s global standards, including advanced material science expertise and high levels of product consistency.

“We are stepping up our ability to intimately serve the needs of our North American customers with trusted brake solutions that help keep millions of people safe every day,” said Pasquale Barilla, general manager of ITT’s Friction Technologies business. “As a strong regional center for automotive manufacturing, Silao offers us the ability to enhance service and speed to market while maintaining our high quality standards.”
