General Motors of Canada and its Calgary Area Dealers Donate $1.1 Million to Southern Alberta Institute of Technology

General Motors of Canada president Michael Grimaldi has announced a combined $1.1 million donation to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) from GM Canada and its Calgary Area Dealers. The donation is for the Clayton Carroll Automotive Centre.
“It’s no secret that our industry is in a period of rapid technological change. Vehicle manufacturers are developing and implementing new technologies to enhance safety and performance, improve fuel economy, and reduce emissions. With this kind of innovation and technology, SAIT’s students are entering a career where education is paramount and a life-long experience. The Clayton Carroll Automotive Centre is truly an inspiration to us all.” said Grimaldi.
Irene Lewis, SAIT President and CEO said, “Keeping up with the latest technology is essential in business. The automotive industry needs highly educated, skilled, ambitious people to carry them into the next century. With this donation, the Clayton Carroll Automotive Centre is destined to become one of SAIT’s key Centres of Technology Development.”
The Clayton Carroll Automotive Centre is a new high-tech facility at SAIT that has six state-of the-art classrooms, capacity for 359 students and room for 60 vehicles. General Motors of Canada and SAIT enjoy a partnership that dates back to 1986 when SAIT provided an automotive instructor to GM. Since that time, GM has made significant investments in automotive training at SAIT, including a $50,000 cash donation and almost $600,000 worth of vehicles and components.
