Ontario will be introducing a mandatory vehicle branding program aimed at countering motor vehicle fraud and theft and protecting consumers in the used vehicle market and the Collision Industry Action Group is offering information sessions in co-operation with the Ontario Government and the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
This government program is designed to identify severely damaged vehicles that have been classified as a total loss and subsequently branded as a result of collision, impact, fire, flood, or theft.
The mandatory vehicle branding program contains significant modifications from the current voluntary program, including major changes in the vehicle inspection program for rebuilt "salvage" branded vehicles. Some of these changes relate to "reassembled vehicles," vehicles being imported to Ontario, more specific requirements in brand assignment, who is required to brand and enhanced structural requirements for both vehicle branding and inspection.
Companies and individuals involved in the possession, sales, handling, repair, inspection, documentation or appraisal of severely damaged vehicles, are being advised to attend one of the information sessions to become fully informed of the program changes. Significant penalties under the Highway Traffic Act may be imposed for failure to comply with the enhanced legislative and regulatory requirements.
Sessions are being offered across Ontario at the following locations. All sessions run from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
