Proceeds of the upcoming "Charity Chopper" auction on eBay Motors will now be focused on The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s efforts to address the urgent needs of blood cancer patients in areas affected by Hurricane Katrina, according to sponsors of the charity fundraiser.
The Charity Chopper is a custom motorcycle built in a collaborative effort between Ray Evernham of Evernham Motorsports, renowned motorcycle builder Dave Perewitz and PPG Automotive Refinish.
"This year-long fundraiser remains dedicated to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and its mission in supporting ongoing efforts to find a cure for blood-related cancers. However, in light of the current national emergency in the Gulf Coast, we wanted to do our part to help ease the pain and suffering," said Mark Rapson, PPG. "In doing so, the Society will use 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the Charity Chopper to directly assist cancer treatment centers and services for displaced patients in the Gulf Coast."
The many thousands of cancer patients in the Gulf Coast region who have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina may have trouble getting access to their cancer treatments. To ensure that these patients, many of whom are in need of acute care, do not have their treatments interrupted, the Society is reaching out to treatment facilities in the surrounding region. The Society is also providing support to overburdened cancer centers in Texas that are caring for patients displaced by the hurricane.
The Charity Chopper, which goes up for auction on eBay Motors September 30th, features a signature flamed paint design by Dave Perewitz and sports autographs of several NASCAR celebrities and drivers, including Ray Evernham, Jeremy Mayfield, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Rusty Wallace, Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne. The winning bidder will be presented with the Charity Chopper at Texas Motor Speedway at the November NASCAR race weekend.
