AutoZone, the U.S. retail/commercial auto parts chain, says that it does not regard being named as a defendant in asbestos claims cases as a real threat.
The response comes following the filing of a quarterly report by competing chain Advance Auto Parts that it had become involved in asbestos litigation cases.
AutoZone says that it had been named as a defendant in an insignificant number of cases along with numerous others. The cases arise from the sale of friction products–mainly brake parts.
“AutoZone, Inc., as a retail seller of auto parts, has never manufactured or installed these products, does not believe it has material liability in these cases, and will vigorously defend each case,” the company reported in a statement today.
