Customs officials in Dubai thwarted a smuggling attempt to bring 8 kg of heroin into the country hidden in an auto parts shipment. According to officials, the heroin was found when X-rays of the shipment of parts revealed differences in the density of the parts. However, customs officials had to drill into the parts to discover the heroin. The shipment had originated from an unnamed Asian country. “The contraband seized at Dubai Cargo Village was deviously concealed in a consignment of auto spare parts imported from an Asian country,” Ali Al Maqhawi, senior manager of passengers operations at Dubai Customs, told the AFP news agency. “The steel spare parts were re-welded in a crafty way. We had to make a hole in one of the parts which were stuffed into two cardboard boxes. The white powder found inside later proved to be heroin,” Maqhawi said.
