Aftermarket Sales Are on the Rise According to Report

Automotive aftermarket sales are showing a gradual increase, according to the Wholesale/Retail Report on the Automotive Aftermarket, produced quarterly by the Motor Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) Financial Services Group (MFSG).
MFSG is a commercial service division of MEMA.
The report, which includes 14 of the leading warehouse distributors and mass merchandisers, has been expanded to track inventory changes. Results show that sales have improved anywhere from 2.4 percent to 31.7 percent among 12 of the 14 respondents.
"By comparing the percentage changes in inventory levels to sales movement, we can determine the effectiveness of the company in the control and management of its largest asset," said Dan Griffin, vice president of MFSG.
According to Frank Hampshire, MEMA director of research, the most recent report indicates that participants are becoming more aware of inventory management and tracking it more closely. "This report also shows sales are improving over the slump due to the economic downturn of 2002," he said.
MFSG’s Wholesale/Retail Report is distributed free to subscribers and MEMA members. For more information about the report and other MFSG services, visit
