Capitalizing on its OE developed engineering expertise, Delphi Automotive has taken the next step in its evolution by offering all makes coverage on significant product lines, says Lucia Moretti, vice president of Delphi and president of Delphi Product and Service Solutions.
Delphi made the announcement during the AAPEX show in Las Vegas, Nev.
Delphi announced it has achieved over 80% coverage on fuel pumps and modules with the addition of more than 100 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury fuel pumps to its product line up. In addition, engine management expansion on ignition coil coverage will reach 80% in 2012 and includes the introduction of ignition pencil coils with 124 part numbers covering more than 200 applications.
Moretti went to great pains to emphasize that the all makes program does not involve sourcing products from other suppliers.
“We are not going to source product and put in a Delphi box. We are going to manufacture aftermarket specific products in our facilities.” This marks a significant development for the company, she says, and follows years of customer consultations.
“You are going to see the Delphi OE experience applied in all of these products. We heard loud and clear that there was a need for a company to bring OE level products, specifically in the engine management category,” she says.
“The opportunity for the aftermarket is huge; most of this business is going back to the dealer,” says Keith Gordon, director of sales for Canada.
The rollout of the program is multifaceted.
All makes programs are currently expanding Delphi’s offerings in fuel pumps and modules, ignition coils, mass air flow sensors, fuel injectors, air conditioning compressors, and O2 sensors.
“Delphi is also able to pull ahead OE technology so that older vehicles can benefit from today’s technological advances, enabling technicians to provide better vehicle performance for their customers,” explained Brian Altenberger, marketing director, North America, Delphi Product & Service Solutions. “Delphi planar O2 sensors are a good example of this. Capitalizing on our OE technology, we developed a smarter solution with wider aftermarket coverage for not only older, but late model applications. This allows older vehicles to benefit from Delphi planar O2 sensors fastest light off time, resulting in 40-50% reduction in cold start emissions.”
