Hyundai planning to boost crossover lineup

In case there weren’t enough options for customers, Hyundai is planning to release eight new or re-engineered crossover utility vehicles. And they will be available in a variety of fuel choices.

Customers have been shying away from midsize sedans and into the light truck segment, which includes crossover and sport utility vehicles.

These new CUVs are expected to be available by 2020 in the U.S., Hyundai announced at its America Technical Center in Michigan. The company will start off with the Kona, a small CUV, in March. The new lineup will range from entry level to the eight-passenger midsize class.

The vehicles will be equipped with gasoline engines, diesel engines, hydrogen fuel cell and electric technologies. Hyundai said they are the only car manufacturer offering customers four different fuel options for CUVs.

“Very soon we are going to have the most diverse CUV powertrain lineup in the industry,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, product, corporate and digital planning at Hyundai Motor America. “These vehicles will show the engineering prowess of the more than 13,000 engineers Hyundai Motor Company has working on current and future models every single day.”

The new fleet will be shown off at major auto shows in the U.S.
