Head Gaskets Solve Sealing Concerns…

Head Gaskets Solve Sealing Concerns on Forced Induction Small-Block Ford Engines

Federal-Mogul has introduced a line of Fel-Pro PermaTorque MLS performance head gaskets engineered to address potential cylinder-head lift issues encountered on some supercharged, turbocharged, and nitrous-equipped small-block Ford engines.
New Fel-Pro PermaTorque MLS “Severe Duty” head gaskets combine Federal-Mogul’s industry leading multi-layer-steel technology with additional design features that accommodate extreme head lift. The gaskets are available in two design configurations: “SD4,” featuring four layers of embossed full-hard stainless steel and no shim layer, resulting in additional “spring” action; and “SD5,” which comprises four embossed stainless steel layers and one shim layer, providing the same “spring” action and additional (up to .0052-inch) thickness.
Federal-Mogul sealing system engineers utilized Linear Variable Displacement Transducers to determine the location and amount of head lift encountered in a variety of small-block Ford engines. This insight to real-world operating conditions enabled them to create a PermaTorque MLS head gasket design that exceeds the sealing requirements of supercharged and turbocharged engines.
Each active layer within a PermaTorque MLS Severe Duty gasket features precisely engineered sealing beads to maintain contact pressure between the cylinder head and block. These head gaskets also feature an advanced rubber coating that accommodates a wide range of surface finishes and ensures superior reliability in all applications.
