Hankook Tire releases statistics…

Hankook Tire releases statistics from its 2014 Tire Canada Spring Index

Hankook Tire Canada’s annual survey of drivers from coast to coast provides insight into the driving habits (both good and bad) of Canadians and aims to provide valuable information to keep our families safe on the roads each season. This year’s topics tackle important questions like, are you driving on the right tires for the season and if you do get a flat tire what do you do next? The 2014 results just might surprise you, for example:

The Hankook Tire study revealed a major anxiety facing Canadians, is the fear produced by the idea of getting a flat tire. In today’s fast-moving world the overwhelming majority of Canadians polled (84%) believe that getting a flat tire (without a cell phone) would be more stressful than:

*Having to give a speech at work (65%);
*Having to travel by plane (30%);
*Killing a spider (21%).

This fear surely speaks to a lack of knowledge around our vehicles and a lack of understanding when it comes to common car maintenance – specifically how to change a spare tire. Not just an urban problem, the same national study found that getting a flat on a rural road (going to or coming back from the cottage) was even more stressful than experiencing one on the highway (63% vs. 35%).

Additional survey data and relevant statistics:

*The majority of Canadians are confused as to the difference between all season, all-weather and ultra-high performance tires

*More than half of winter tire owners are storing their winter tires improperly during the spring and summer months

*A mere 23% of winter tire owners correctly store winter tires in air tight bags in a dry, cool location

*A shocking 5% of drivers dangerously leave their winter tires on all year long

This year’s survey was funded by Hankook Tire Canada and conducted by Leger and was completed between March 31- April 7, 2014 with a representative sample size of 1,500 Canadian drivers, 18 years of age or older.
