GM Asks Collision Repairers For Feedback


In an effort to better understand the needs of collision repairers, General Motors has released a survey to help it make changes and improvements to support the collision repair industry.

The goal of the survey is to understand the process of how collision repair shops access and use OEM repair procedures.

GM says the collision industry is “in the midst of a technical tsunami” that is affecting the collision industry. Aluminum, high and ultra-high strength steel, carbon fiber, adhesive joining, new welding techniques, crash avoidance systems and other changes are forcing repairer to rely on OEM procedures more than ever.

GM is encouraging the industry to share the survey with any body shop. It says the more feedback it gets, the better it can serve industry needs. The survey will be open through the end of July.

    At Airpark Collision Center, the use of OEM and aftermarket parts depends on several factors. If the repair will be paid by the insurance company, the policy normally states what type of parts will be used. If the policy states that aftermarket parts will be used, Airpark (collisioncenternorthscottsdale.com) will comply, but if it does not fit and it will compromise the repair, they will be sending pictures, proof and receipts to the insurance company.
    If the repair is to be paid personally by the customer, then they use parts depending on the customer’s preference. Be it OEM or aftermarket, Airpark Collision Center have access to vendors and can obtain products for every vehicle manufacturer.

    How about they stop substituting Chinese crap parts in place of the original parts. Headlamp assemblies is ONE example. The parts that were used by a GM Dealer body shop were NOT original yet they kept claiming “OEM” parts were used.
    The plastic mouldings looked like some high school kids’ backyard project….. Quit selling cheap junk and claiming “OEM” quality standards.
    I also have two air filters at the shop, both with the same AC-Delco part number (always substituted from the OE listing) and the two are very obviously not the same. Even a grade schooler can see they are not the same and one is much better quality than the other.
    I guess they’re taking a page from Bosch and Volkswagon and practicing deception.
    I always thought GM were better than that. Sad.
