Ford investigates suppliers in China…

Ford investigates suppliers in China and Mexico

According to a recent report in the Wall Street Journal, Big three manufacturer Ford Motor Co. has been taking a close look at some of the companies it buys parts from in both Mexico and China, in an attempt to rule-out any possibility of sweat-shop conditions.
For more than two years, Ford representatives have been working up numerous assessments of working conditions in some 160 of its supplier plants, the majority of which are located in China. According to Ford, this exercise has been carried out to ensure that these companies are adhering what can be loosely defined as international standards in areas like child labor laws; prohibition on forced labor; health and safety, along with wages and benefits
Ford plans to examine an additional 40 supplier sites with the ultimate goal of investigating some 400 of the 2,000 supplier plants Ford utilizes in 17low-cost countries.
