On Tuesday December 4th, members of AIA’s Quebec Division gathered in Boucherville for the annual Soirée hommage aux bâtisseurs where influential members of the industry and Jubilee Medal recipients alike were honoured for their contributions.
For the past seven years, the Quebec Division has gathered before the holidays to honour pioneers in the automotive aftermarket industry in Quebec. This year, more than 360 individuals attended the cocktail reception, dinner, and award ceremony hosted by AIA’s Quebec Division in collaboration with Rousseau Automotive Communication. Among the guests were Faust Alférez, former vice-president of UAP Inc.; Denis Charest, founder of Spectra Premium; and Laurent Gagnon, one of the founders of Uni-Sélect, who were all honoured as “bâtisseurs” and are now members of the Circle of Pioneers.
Following the cocktail reception and opening remarks, twelve worthy individuals from the aftermarket industry were awarded their Diamond Jubilee Medals. Dean Wilson, former president of AIA; Jean Douville, UAP Inc.; Gaston Trudel, one of the founders of Uni-Select; Jacques Parent, Coventa; Jean Bouchard, Centre de service automobile de Boucherville; Jean Duchesneau, OK Tire Mont-Royal; Jean-Marc Laroche, former regional coordinator for AIA’s Quebec Division; John Watt, former Chairman of the Board for AIA; Luc Champagne, Les Consultations Champagne et Media Production Consultant; Michel Tremblay, Acting Director of Industry Relations for AIA; Rémy Rousseau, Rousseau Automotive Communication; and Yvan Domingue, Entrepôt De Montréal, all received their medals and were celebrated for their extensive contributions to the industry and their communities.
The Chairman of the Board, John MacDonald, commented that, “It is such an honour to award these outstanding individuals in the presence of their colleagues, friends, and families. I feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to visit all of AIA’s divisions and recognize members for their hard work and their exemplary service to their communities.”
As of now, all 38 recipients from the automotive aftermarket industry have received their Diamond Jubilee Medals. Recipients Brad Morris, Grote Industries; John Cochrane, Cochrane Automotive; and Bob Greenwood, Automotive Aftermarket E-Learning Centre Ltd. received their Jubilee Medals in Toronto in late November in time to wear their medals to AIA’s 70th Anniversary Gala. And Matt O’Brien, Grant Brothers Sales Ltd., received his medal in the presence of his wife, his mother, and all of the AIA staff at a presentation at the AIA offices in Ottawa earlier this month.
“This has been a really exciting year for AIA,” said Marc Brazeau, president and CEO, AIA. “The Association celebrated its 70th anniversary, held numerous successful events, strengthened relationships with government officials and broadened its industry training resources. And to top it all off, we had the opportunity to salute 38 model industry members for their dedication to the industry and to their communities. I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of such a wonderful industry.”
Congratulations to all those from the Quebec Division who received their Diamond Jubilee Medals at the Soirée hommage aux bâtisseurs, and to the other recipients who received their medals over the course of the last month. Congratulations also to the three pioneers who were honoured in Boucherville.
