Federal-Mogul Takes Its Show on the Road, Hits European Aftermarket Show

Federal-Mogul Corporation hopes to raise its profile with a major presence at the at the Automechanika 2002 automotive aftermarket trade show in Frankfurt, Germany, with several new product lines on display.
Federal-Mogul is placing major emphasis on its European “power brands” at this year’s show, which opened today and runs until September 22. Differing from the company’s North American offerings, these brands include Champion spark plugs, Ferodo friction products, Moog chassis and suspension parts, AE engine components, Glyco bearings and rings, Payen and Goetze sealing products (gaskets) and Nural pistons, plus the Beral friction line. A prominent theme at Federal-Mogul’s exhibit is the strong “Original Equipment Quality” that has been attained by the company’s aftermarket brands throughout Europe. “Federal-Mogul’s heritage and reputation as an original equipment (OE) supplier extend into the manufacturing of our aftermarket products in Europe, and increasingly influence our thinking in bringing new products to market,” said John McCormack, vice president, European Aftermarket.
A prime example of this is one of the major new products that is making its show debut at Automechanika: Champion’s “OE” Spark Plug concept. This line is a short range of direct original equipment-equivalent spark plugs which are the result of market research undertaken.
Also new for the show is an expanded range of "sputter" engine bearings from AE. The “sputtering” process is the result of years of extensive research and produces what the company says is the most durable material known today for engine bearings. Federal-Mogul’s AE brand is also showcasing its new Timing Belt Kit range, which has been introduced in response to feedback from customers throughout Europe. The kits feature all OE spec parts and the initial range of 41 kits will cover more than 70% of the European fleet.
Federal-Mogul has also introduced its HeadSaver shims to the European market under the Payen brand. The product is a stainless steel shim that has been designed to help prolong the life of cylinder heads and is designed to overcome some of the challenges associated with the widespread use of aluminum alloy cylinder heads.
The Moog brand, which made its debut in Europe only two years ago, has been making great inroads in much of Europe according to the company. At this week’s show, a new range of commercial vehicle chassis and suspension parts from the brand is being introduced.
