Letter To The Editor… (June 01, 2009)

Dear Mr. Ross,

In response to Brian Baier’s letter in your May ’09 issue, I believe he has hit the nail on the head regarding pricing.

I have worked in this industry for 31 years and we in B. C. also now have far too many “jobbers” surviving only because they are willing to discount pricing to anyone off the street to make a sale versus providing service (which most people are willing to pay for) at a fair price.

Some “jobbers” also have their own service bays and do discount repair jobs by quoting low parts prices.

I was taught that service is what we sell; anyone can discount pricing but the entire industry suffers.

It’s unfortunate that some parts manufacturers are also so short-sighted and get onboard with this race to the bottom.

I also sincerely hope our industry can survive these challenges from within.
