The Equipment and Tool Institute hires Rick Matz as technical manager

Rick Matz has joined the Equipment and Tool Institute (ETI) as technical manager.
Matz will help manage the ETI TEK-NET Library, including helping member companies understand the library and the data in it and seek information from OEMs when it is determined that the information the member companies need to design and build their tools is missing.
Matz will also be responsible for developing and gathering technical information and articles for the Institute’s publications; coordinating the meeting activities of Vertical Groups and the Technical Committee; representing ETI in its cooperative efforts with other trade associations; and serving as the ETI representative and attending key SAE and ISO committee meetings that affect tool and equipment design and manufacturing.
Matz attended Lawrence Institute of Technology for Business Data Processing and did course work at the National Institute of Technology in Electronics Engineering Technology before joining several tech and software companies.
Matz worked at General Motors on a concept car that realized the first whole vehicle high speed bus and was one of the members of the small team that wrote the engine controller software for the original Viper engine.
Recently, Matz transitioned into telematics and connected vehicles, particularly in aftermarket auto insurance related applications.
“Rick will bring us additional technical resources with his extensive background in automotive communications,” said Greg Potter, ETI’s executive manager. “His recent experience with our expanding telematics space is a big plus for our membership. With Rick’s addition, ETI will be much better outfitted for the challenges ahead.”
