Quebec Minster of the Environment, Jacques Brassard, has formally announced the implementation of a maintenance program as part of the province’s drive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. “Un Air D’Avenir” will come into effect in 2002, and in its first phase will apply to all heavy-duty vehicles throughout Quebec and to light duty vehicles in the Montreal region. Other regions of Quebec will be included in subsequent program phases. The program announcement comes after three years of intensive lobbying by Quebec-based environmental groups and the Quebec division of the Automotive Industries Association.
