Ask any vendor about providing product knowledge training sessions and you will see a wince flash across their face as they pause thinking of how they will deal with the issue. Vendors spend a lot of money on training and most of the time they are plagued by self-doubt on the merits of such training.

Ken Barclay, of AutoStart, provides training on the ProStart remote car starter. For a number of years that meant starting to drive across Canada and stopping at several locations to provide personalized training to a few staffers. The training went on for months and Ken could only get to 10% of the retail locations.

This meant months of hotel, meals and mileage expenses and that doesn’t even begin to account for the lost productivity as a result of being out of the office for months. Ken Barclay says, “IDL (Interactive Distance Learning) has given us ‘live’ communication with a larger audience and what used to take months to do can now be done in two hours.” Now Ken does the training quickly and efficiently the IDL way and he can do it at exactly the right time for everyone across the country.

Booking the CARS facilities means televising to as many as 400 sites simultaneously. That includes Canadian Tire, Sears, Midas, Certigard, AC Delco and a variety of independent owner/operators across the country.

Phil Myers, the Manager of Automotive Education and Equipment at Canadian Tire says, “being able to provide the training to everyone at the same time makes the IDL approach the ideal one to reach staff at the grass roots level.” Canadian Tire regularly uses the CARS Network for technical automotive training as well as for meetings and specialized management workshops that detail new marketing and business strategies.

The CARS Network has produced and televised numerous product knowledge sessions for vendors including DesignTech International, Fenco, Wells, Reese Trailer Hitches, Bauer Nike Hockey Equipment, CCM, Pioneer, Kenwood and Lawn Boy to name just a few.
