Michelin has enlisted Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame driver and instructor Richard Spenard on a cross-Canada tour to promote safe winter driving. Targeted at print and broadcast media, Spenard gave driving tips and empahised the need for winter tires for adequate winter safety.
“The message here is that whether it snows or not, it gets cold in winter, and all season tires don’t perform as well as winter tires”, he declared, adding, “At temperatures below 7 degree Celsius, the all season tire loses its elasticity, whereas the winter tire will keep its softness. It gives powerful braking, traction and handling. People don’t realize that winter tires aren’t just for snow or ice, but for cold weather too. Baking distances are much shorter on winter tires. It all depends on how you value your life.”
