Eye Spy: DIY lowering blocks

The owner of a recently purchased 1965 Mustang was surprised to learn that the rear suspension had been unsafely lowered with blocks of wood.

Tim Scratch, the general manager of K-W Spring and Suspension came across this odd modification on a 1965 Mustang.

A customer came in because the rear of the vehicle, which he had recently purchased was low. Tim found that the previous owner had used blocks of wood to lower the suspension. The team at K-W Spring and Suspension was surprised to learn that the vehicle had been given a safety in its condition!

“I explained to the customer how dangerous it was, and that at very least he should speak with the tech or garage that performed the safety.”

They encouraged him to report it, and fixed a few other smaller items.

Unfortunately, DIY jobs are something Tim says he sees too often. “Suspension is one of those things that everyone thinks they can do. This find is nothing compared to some of the things we’ve seen!”
