Duracool has launched a trio of A/C products that the company claims will open the door to missed A/C service for both specialist shops and operations that don’t do much air conditioning service. Does the system work? SSGM observed while Doug Fiegehen of Toronto’s Direct Automotive Services installed the products in a 1993 Olds Achieva with a fundamentally sound, but leaky R134a system.

How did the installation work? The Olds system “Achieved” 39 F vent temperatures on a 76 F day at idle, suggesting that the combination of system drying, performance lubricant and sealant, combined with Duracool’s HC refrigerant will perform as a straight retrofit in an R134a vehicle without leakage or issues with seals or O-rings. One noticable advantage of the Duracool trio is the ease of installation. Low side charging is simple, and the product flows in with a simple “can tapper” and hose assembly. The entire process took less than 45 minutes, although Doug likes to give it an hour to do a careful job. “I wish I could do this all day long. It’s nice work,” he declares. At a retail price point in the $250 range, it can also be profitable work.
