DesRosiers has released its latest monthly sales report.
Alberta’s declines continue at a double digit pace with the province now running close to 18,000 units behind 2014 levels, while Ontario reported a gain exceeding 24,000 units YoY at the end of August. The delicate balance between the weakness in the Prairie provinces and the strength in Ontario, Quebec and B.C. will determine whether or not Canada breaks another automotive sales record in 2015.
The trend towards light trucks in the new vehicle sales market continues to gather momentum with August 2015 sales of light trucks up 10.0 percent year-over-year and 7.5 percent year-to-date. From the most popular segment perspective, if the Compact Sport Utility segment (now less than 10,000 units short of compact passenger car sales), carries its momentum through to the end of the year there is a good chance that it will overtake the longstanding segment champion.
