The Bridgestone/Firestone Canadian Truck Hero Award is presented annually to a professional truck driver who has shown incredible courage, integrity, and quick thinking in an emergency situation. “Each year, we hear incredible and inspiring stories of life-saving bravery demonstrated by our nation’s truck drivers,” says John Lindo, manager of Public Relations, Bridgestone/Firestone Canada Inc. “We are asking anyone who knows of a heroic Canadian truck driver to contact us in order to include them in the nomination process.”

Two people are alive today because of last year’s Truck Hero, Martin Baumber, who rushed to help trapped victims in a burning vehicle on the 401 near Woodstock, Ontario.

“The accident was caused by a speeding car,” says Mr. Baumber. “I just did what I had to do, but it’s sad when you realize tragedies like these can be prevented if people would use more caution when driving.”

Bridgestone/Firestone Canada will present the 2003 Canadian Truck Hero with the award at the Ontario Trucking Convention in November. Nomination forms and detailed submission criteria are available at the Bridgestone/Firestone Canadian Truck Hero Award Web site at www.truckhero.ca or call 1-866-544-HERO (4376).
