British Columbia I/M Program Announces Best Emissions Performers

British Columbia I/M program AirCare has released its list of best performing vehicles in 2004 based on lowest initial failure rates with a minimum of 5,000 inspections. :

1991 and older Passenger Cars

1. Mazda: 8,670 Mazdas were inspected in 2004 resulting in a 12.24% failure rate or 1,061 failures.

2. Toyota: 28,170 Toyotas were inspected in 2004 resulting in a 14.57% failure rate or 4,105 failures.

3. Buick: 6,027 Buicks were inspected in 2004 resulting in a 15.25% failure rate or 919 failures.

1991 and older Light Duty Trucks

1. Toyota: 7,492 Toyotas were inspected in 2004 resulting in a 12.72% failure rate or 953 failures.

2. Ford: 14,032 Fords were inspected in 2004 resulting in a 15.54% failure rate or 2,180 failures.

3. Mazda: 5,459 Mazdas were inspected in 2004 resulting in an 18.90% failure rate or 1,032 failures.

1992 and newer Passenger Cars

1. Toyota: 26,165 Toyotas were inspected in 2004 resulting in a 4.75% failure rate or 1,242 failures.

2. Honda: 29,998 Hondas were inspected in 2004 resulting in a 5.38% failure rate or 1,614 failures.

3. Ford: 19,675 Fords were inspected in 2004 resulting in a 5.83% failure rate or 1,148 failures.

1992 and newer Light Duty Trucks

1. Toyota: 10,198 Toyotas were inspected in 2004 resulting in a 3.75% failure rate or 382 failures.

2. Nissan: 6,616 Nissans were inspected in 2004 resulting in a 6.03% failure rate or 399 failures.

3. Ford: 28,078 Fords were inspected in 2004 resulting in a 6.20% failure rate or 1,740 failures.

Inspection Facts from 2004

The Year 2004 marked the 12th operating year of the AirCare program. In 2004 AirCare only inspected vehicles that are model year 2001 and older.
