Audi of America will offer General Motors’ OnStar telematics services later this year, beginning with the firm’s new A4 model. “Audi Telematics by OnStar” will use GPS technology and a wireless link to GM’s OnStar Center, allowing automatic notification of airbag deployment, remote door lock/unlock, stolen vehicle tracking, route guidance and concierge services. Audi owners will also be able to retrieve Internet-based e-mail and news reports, or make hands-free cellular phone calls. Audi plans to eventually introduce the system throughout the product line.
