Arvin brake shoe coating wins trucking editors’ choice

ARLINGTON, VA. — ArvinMeritor’s PlatinumShield Brake Shoes has been recognized by the Truck Writers of North America (TWNA) as the top technical achievement for 2009.

The truck components supplier accepted the award for its rust preventative coating at TMC’s 2010 Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition, in Tampa, Fla.

The Technical Achievement Award and trophy were presented to Mac Whittemore, ArvinMeritor’s Midwest regional manager, and Paul Greenlaw, ArvinMeritor’s national fleet manager-aftermarket.

The award was decided by TWNA’s award committee, which as made up of editors of North America’s leading trucking publications includes Peter Carter of Today’s Trucking.

The PlatinumShield coating resists micro-abrasion caused by the movement of the brake lining against the shoe table during normal use. Rust-jacking occurs when rust forms on bare shoe metal under the lining, causing the lining to lift and crack.

The "Top Four" finalists also included Eaton’s UltraShift PLUS Transmission, Rand McNally’s IntelliRoute TND 500 GPS, and TruckLite’s LED Headlamps.
