Apple granted patent for tactile touch screen interfaces for improved vehicle instrumentation and telematics

In support of Apples IOS in the car, revealed at the companys World Wide Developer Conference in June, Apple Inc. has been granted several patents, many of which pertain to on-board touch-screen vehicle telematics. Patent US 8,482,535, originally acquired from Canadian engineer Timothy Prior of Windsor, Ont., will allow Apple to continue development of a programmable tactile dashboard.


In support of Apple’s ‘IOS in the car,’ revealed at the company’s World Wide Developer Conference in June, Apple Inc. has been granted several patents, many of which pertain to on-board touch-screen vehicle telematics.
 
U.S. Patent 8,482,535, originally acquired from Canadian engineer Timothy Prior of Windsor, Ont., will allow Apple to continue development of a programmable tactile dashboard.
 
Prior says the technology he’s developed can be used for the basic control functions of the vehicle, as well as a potential means of telematic connectivity while driving, through the internet and mobile phones.
