AIA YES Conference: Finding the Mark of a Leader

Fully engaged employees are more effective, more productive, and easier to manage than their non-engaged counterparts. But how do you best engage your staff?

Fully engaged employees are more effective, more productive, and easier to manage than their non-engaged counterparts. But how do you best engage your staff?

Nearly 60 aftermarketers attended the Automotive Industries Association (AIA) of Canada’s YES Conference at the International Centre in Toronto on March 25th.

The day’s high-energy, interactive workshop was given by Doug Keeley, CEO and Chief Storyteller of The Mark of a Leader, who shared video clips, musical interludes and stories about the various qualities of a good leader. Using examples from a variety of businesses, Doug taught the attendees about the importance of engaging employees and gave them practical ideas for doing so.

Over the course of the afternoon, the attendees also had the opportunity to hear from industry mentor Jim McCown, VP of Automotive Parts and Assortment at Canadian Tire through a one-on-one interview with Kristine Brown of Wakefield Canada. Jim shared with the audience his unique experiences working in the automotive markets in Mexico, the United States, and now Canada.

Learning how to be a great leader and how to get the best from your employees are important skills that not only benefit your business, but also benefit the well-being of your staff. The day’s attendees certainly left this year’s workshop with more tools under their belts to help further develop the skills that will allow them to flourish within the business world and better engage their employees.

AIA also thanked Doug Keeley and Jim McCown for their presentations, as well as all of this year’s participants. The next YES Workshop will be taking place in November.
