AIA met with Alberta government to discuss priorities and local memberships

Automotive Industries Association (AIA) of Canada members and staff met with government officials in Edmonton, Alberta, on April 15, to discuss priorities impacting its local membership.
The meetings held during four separate sessions covered a number of issues such as workplace safety, job creation, small and medium-sized business tools and resources, apprenticeships, economic development, consumer protection, road safety and the Be Car Care Aware (BCCA) program. Specifically, meetings were held with the Ministry of Job, Skills, Training and Labour, the Ministry of Innovation and Advanced Education, Alberta Transportation and Service Alberta.
These government relations activities in Alberta offered an opportunity for AIA to introduce its members, learn about programs relevant to the industry and work towards building a strong and long-lasting partnership with the province.
“These meetings were a positive step forward in relationships with the provincial government and in fact, yielded a valuable comprehensive document outlining employer incentives and grants, available tax credits, apprenticeship initiatives and industry services,” said Alvin Chibi, chair of the AIA Northern Alberta Division. “We asked the Ministry of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour for a clear and concise document outlining all of the available government resources and what they put together for us will be a great resource for members. All of the meetings were valuable and provide a good base to building a stronger relationship with the government of Alberta.”
